Teaching Philosophy

Both music and teaching are collaborative processes that prompt a continuous drive to investigate and apply ideas to everyday life and make connections to the world. This drive can be supported through the evaluation and synthesis of new ideas with recognized ideas through the mediums of performance, discussion, and creation in a co-constructed learning environment.

We are guided in our learning by teachers who facilitate discussion and encourage interdisciplinary thinking and creation. Curriculum, discussion, and learning is student-directed, experiential and connected to our community. The core of our curriculum consists of repertoire that is authentic to students’ experiences and representative of our interconnected world in order to allow each learner to foster the growth of their innate musical selves.
